Reunited: Alfie Moon, played by Shane Richie, and wife Kat, played by Jessie Wallace, finally get their baby back after the baby swap plot
It's the moment that fans have been waiting for - Kat Moon is finally reunited with baby Tommy after the EastEnders cotdeath plot, which has turned out to be the soap's most controversial ever.
In moving scenes, Kat - played by Jessie Wallace, 39 - is seen cradling her stolen son in her arms after Ronnie Branning - played by Samantha Womack, 38 - finally comes to her senses after Tanya Branning and Greg Jessop's wedding.
The baby swap plot started on New Year's Eve when Ronnie exchanged her newborn son James, who'd died of cotdeath, for Kat and Alfie's newborn.
But more than 6,000 enraged people complained that the storyline was sick so BBC bosses cut the plot short.
In scenes filmed this week, Kat and Alfie - still in marriage gear - are seen with Tommy at a hospital.
Apparently, Ronnie is visiting her brother in law, Max - Jake Wood - in hospital after he's been involved in a car smash.
Record complaints: The plot has proved to be the most controversial ever, sparking more than 6000 complaints
She bumps into the midwife who delivered her baby - and the enormity of what she has done finally hits her.
Ronnie takes the baby and drives to the Queen Vic - where he is reunited with his parents.
The police are then called and baby Tommy is taken to the hospital to be checked over.
An Albert Square insider told the Daily Star Sunday: 'It’s as though Ronnie wakes up from a bad dream.
'Something inside her switches back on and she realises the extent of her actions. As soon as that happens she knows she must confess all about what she’s done and hand back Kat’s baby.'
An EastEnders spokesman said: 'We do not comment on future storylines but we have always said Ronnie will do the right thing and Tommy will be reunited with Kat.'
Impact: In other scenes being shot for the soap, Max Branning and daughter Abi are involved in a car crash on their way to Tanya's wedding
Stunt doubles: Dummies were used to film the actual moment of the crash
Meanwhile, pictures have emerged of the filming of the carcrash that Max was involved in.
He's driving his and Tanya's daughter Abi to the wedding when he's involved in a collision with a lorry.
It's thought both survive.
More drama: The car is thrust under an articulated lorry trailer - but the accident helps spark the end of the baby swap plot
